RDI Platform

Background

The South African Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is undertaking a project funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Department of Environmental Affairs(DEA) to establish research, development and innovation (RDI) platforms for ecological infrastructure in three catchments.

Environmental & Rural Solutions (ERS), based in Matatiele, has been appointed by SANBI to co-ordinate the uMzimvubu RDI platform function, and we would like to introduce ourselves and invite you to participate in the process. Our overall strategy for the 27 month process is as follows:

Ecological infrastructure is defined for the purpose of this project as naturally functioning ecosystems that deliver valuable services to people. Whilst there is growing expertise and research in this space, this is often not very well shared or integrated, leading to overlap in efforts or gaps in research. Research is not always positioned in a way that allows for strategic uptake, use and implementation by the community of practise. This project focuses on the establishment of RDI platforms focusing specifically on ecological infrastructure in three catchments, including the uMzimvubu.
